In a world of infant videos, playgroups, and exciting toys, the idea that we can glean rich knowledge from purposefully boring an infant can seem strange. Yet, this statement essentially encapsulates the habituation task, a procedure that has answered fundamental questions about early language acquisition and continues to be of great use to the field of developmental psycholinguistics. 1 Habituation Procedures

Effects of stocking density, feeding technique and vitamin C supplementation on the habituation on dry feed of pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) pond reared juveniles
Influence of three different stocking densities, vitamin C supplementation of Daphnia spp. and feeding practice (i.e. mechanical, hand) on the success of dry feed habituation of pond reared pikeperch juveniles was investigated through one month trial. Pond reared pikeperch juveniles were harvested 42 days post-fertilisation (mean individual weight 1.1 ± 0.3g) and stocked into the experim...
متن کاملHabituation and extinction of fear recruit overlapping forebrain structures.
Establishing the neurocircuitry involved in inhibiting fear is important for understanding and treating anxiety disorders. To date, extinction procedures have been predominately used to examine the inhibition of learned fear, where fear is reduced to a conditioned stimulus (CS) by presenting it in the absence of the unconditioned stimulus (US). However, learned fear can also be reduced by habit...

متن کاملAn interacting systems model of infant habituation.
Habituation and related procedures are the primary behavioral tools used to assess perceptual and cognitive competence in early infancy. This article introduces a neurally constrained computational model of infant habituation. The model combines the two leading process theories of infant habituation into a single functional system that is grounded in functional brain circuitry. The HAB model (f...
متن کاملIi. Visualhabituationstudies: Infants’responses to Typical Andscrambledbody Pictures
This series of studies explores the early development of visuo-spatial human body knowledge in infancy. To achieve this, infants’ responses to typical and scrambled human body shapes were tested. As reviewed above, previous work showed that in a preferential looking paradigm, only 18month-olds appeared to discriminate scrambled from typical human body shapes. This pattern is inconclusive, howev...
